Naturally helps trigger collagen and elastin synthesis
Collagen induction therapy (CIT) also known as microneedling RF or skin needling is a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (microneedling the skin).
Used for a number of skin problems including scarring and acne, microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that naturally helps trigger collagen and elastin synthesis within the skin with maximum results and minimum down-time. By creating microscopic wounds in the skin while still keeping the skin intact, growth factors are produced which induce collagen-producing cells – which are essential in keeping the skin firmer, wrinkle-free and glowing. Also used in hair restoration, microneedling is used to cause micro injuries to the scalp, which creates inflammation and increases blood flow to the hair follicle – resulting in the stimulation of hair growth.
This video shows microneedling with PRP. When we offer this service at AAC, we offer it the following ways:
- Microneedling with Biologique Cocktail Actifs Serum
- Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
All microneedling procedures are followed up with a medical-grade collagen mask to help hydrate and calm the skin down.
(1) Initial Consultation
Before your first treatment, you will come in for an initial consultation where we will discuss realistic expectations, explain how Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation or Hair Regeneration works, other treatments that will help complement and enhance your results, go over pricing, fill out Forms (which you can bring with you when you come in or fill out in office), and set up your schedule. We will also go over ways to increase your Microneedling success with products, combinations of treatments, and overall recommendations.
You will not be receiving treatment on the day of this initial consultation, however you will receive a full treatment plan, with customized pricing, as well as how to prep for your treatment(s).
(2) Before Your Treatments
Fill out all relevant forms on our FORMS page. A topical anesthetic will be applied 15-30 minutes prior to treatment (if necessary). If you are doing PRP with your microneedling treatment, your blood will be drawn at this time as well. All options will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.
- Microneedling cannot be performed if Botox or dermal fillers have been injected into the treatment area within 2 weeks prior to treatment. Additionally, no Botox or dermal fillers 5-7 days afterward.
- Make sure to stay out of the sun and tanning booths for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
- All exfoliating products containing a scrub or acids (ie. p50) should be discontinued 3 days before and 1 week after.
- Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any serious illnesses should check with their doctor before having treatment.
- Patients with communicable diseases who are doing PRP with Microneedling should discuss this at their initial consultation to make sure they are good candidates for this treatment.
- Discontinue any irritant topical agents for 2-7 days prior to treatment.
(3) During Your Treatments
We use the Eclipse MicroPen in our Microneedling treatments. It has been described as feeling similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin. It creates microscopic channels (invisible wounds up to 2mm in depth) that penetrate into the skin but still keep the skin intact. The pen is moved across your face while the nurse is applying the Biologique Cocktail Actifs Serum/your PRP and needling it into your skin. The creation of the micro-wounds during the microneedling treatment allows these products to penetrate much deeper into the skin than they normally would. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the moving pen tip makes the treatment more comfortable.
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after treatment.
Face/Body Microneedling treatments are followed up with a medical-grade collagen mask which heals and hydrates the skin and helps with inflammation and redness, and typically take 90 minutes. Hair Restoration Microneedling does not include the collagen mask but typically takes up to 90 minutes as well.
(4) What To Expect After Treatment
Minimal swelling, redness, and a stinging/sunburned sensation may be noted immediately post treatment, but will disappear within 1-3 days. Fine wrinkles are reduced, facial contours and overall skin quality is improved. Results continue to improve for several weeks and can continue to improve for up to 6 months. Hair restoration clients should see results within 3-6 months, but should remain compliant with their treatment schedule and recommended products to maximize results.
Due to expected dryness during the healing process, we recommend that clients treating areas on their face come in for a Biologique or Valmont customizable hydrating face treatment with one of our skincare therapists.
Multiple treatments are recommended to achieve the best results. Treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. After you’ve achieved optimal results, maintenance is recommended at one treatment seasonally or another series 1-2 times per year depending on skin condition and age.
For longer-lasting results, we recommend Microneedling treatments in combination with any of our other skin rejuvenation treatments. See the Skin Rejuvenation Treatments Packages in our brochure for more.
